Overview
For the Artist-to-Artist section of Frieze London, Gallery Maskara presents a focused collection of large-scale ink brush paintings alongside a series of smaller egg tempera works and drawings by artist T. Venkanna. The ink works continue Venkanna’s ongoing exploration of power dynamics, submission, intimacy and exploitation. With absurdist wit and graphic intensity, they reimagine desire as a deeply personal, yet highly political terrain. By contrast, the jewel-like egg tempera paintings and drawings provide intimate, sometimes tender counterpoints. Their smaller scale encourages close viewing, drawing viewers into scenes where self-assertion, vulnerability, and erotic agency unfold in lush, symbol-rich environments. Together, these works embody Venkanna’s ongoing dedication to imagining a world where power can be rewritten through the perspective of the erotic.
